The genesis of the blackout cartridge was to provide special operations units a .30 caliber compatible round that functions under the constraints of the existing AR pattern dimensions and the .300 AAC blackout cartridge was born. The ability to shoot both subsonic and super sonic cartridges with a suppressor further pushed the envelope and it was found that some of the larger grain weight projectiles, occasionally had reliability issue.
